Challenge
The U.S. Army Center for Health
Promotion & Preventive Medicine (USACHPPM) DEHE needed
consultative expertise for installations worldwide to
mitigate the potential health risks associated with surface
water and wastewater issues at fixed and field activities.
Solution
To support these efforts, DRC performs a
variety of environmental and public activities including:

Reviewing draft wastewater discharge
permits and providing non-compliance assistance

Trouble-shooting wastewater treatment
systems and evaluating performance

Performing industrial pretreatment
planning

Writing and reviewing oil and hazardous
substance spill prevention, contingencies and response
plans

Providing pollution prevention planning

Providing surface water investigations
to include aquatic bioaccumulation evaluations, fish
kill investigations, wetland evaluations, and ecological
risk assessments

Performing environmental compliance
auditing
Benefits/Achievements
By applying expert knowledge of
applicable Federal, State, and local environmental
regulations, environmental conservation "best practices,"
and scientific expertise, DRC personnel actively supports
DEHE's mission to counter environmental threats to the
health, fitness, and preparedness of Army personnel and the
communities surrounding Army installations. Through
pollution prevention planning; environmental compliance
auditing at CONUS and OCONUS installations; and surface
water investigations.
