Department of Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Health & Medical Informatics Service Informatics Council Program Management Support
Challenge
The VHA Innovation Program Office needed
a broad range of support to develop strategic concepts,
vision, and program documents for the VHA-wide Innovation
Program.
Solutions
DRC strategic consultants worked with
the VHA Innovation Program Office to develop the concepts
and vision for a VHA-wide Innovation Program. DRC designed
and created the VHA Innovation Program Office program
documents (e.g. Charter, Program Management Plan, and the
Risk, Cost, Acquisition, Quality, Scope, Communication,
Staffing, Integration, and Change Control Plans) and defined
the processes for the VHA Innovation Program Office.
DRC led the Strategic Incubation
Initiative portfolio of health IT projects, which included
developing the strategic plans to align this work with the
program goals and objectives; creating the approach,
milestones, and operational plans to implement the plan; and
implementing and monitoring the plan’s tasks. As part of the
effort, DRC created SharePoint sites and structured project
documentation so that it could be easily audited and easily
located/retrieved on demand by the site membership.
Benefits/Achievements
DRC assisted in the planning and formal
establishment of the VHA Innovation Program Office as a
functioning, recognized entity in the VA Office of the
Health Information. As a result, the VHA Innovation Program
has recently been elevated in visibility at the VA due to
its widely recognized success, with an approved scope,
charter, and funding. We also implemented the VHA
Informatics Council business and communication tools to help
the Council function properly, consistently, and
efficiently.
