DepotSim
DepotSim is a web-based DRC business
intelligence solution with a simulation model at its core.
DepotSim utilizes aircraft scheduling data and depot
constraints such as facility capacities in order to project
the future flow of aircraft through depots. Aircraft
scheduling data can be automatically imported from existing
depot scheduling systems or, alternatively, aircraft
schedulers can utilize DepotSim to input aircraft schedules
and produce elaborate schedules and reports. DepotSim
simulates aircraft movement through the entire overhaul
process using scheduled turn-around-times (TAT) for each
process, actual/anticipated gains and delays, and projected
facility shut downs. Aircraft movement is displayed
graphically by day with particular emphasis on bottlenecks
and delays. Additionally, Gantt charts of the schedule for
each facility (hangar) can be created and displayed
instantly.
DepotSim gives management the ability to
conduct realistic what-if analysis to determine the correct
courses of action, and the ability to test the success of
previous decisions. Examples include the following:
- "What would be the effect on
TAT if we increased inductions by 20%?"
- "If
we worked Saturdays to reduce Metals
phase by a week, would
those aircraft be sold a week earlier?"
- "If we took the two-year historical
average TAT and applied those averages to In-Work
aircraft, how would the results differ from standard
TAT?"
- "If we performed Assembly in building
82, how would that affect TAT?"
- "If PDM aircraft need a new
Integrated Systems Test phase, what will be the affect
on throughput?"
- "What would be the effect of a
two-month shutdown for one De-Paint bay?"
- "What
if the new facility does not come on line until January?"
Specific implementations of DepotSim
include:
- Simulation
Modeling Analytical Support System (SMASS) for Fleet
Readiness Center Southeast (formerly NADEP
Jacksonville). SMASS has recently been selected as a
NAVAIR corporate tool applicable to all Fleet Readiness
Centers. Aircraft schedulers at Jacksonville utilize the
full DepotSim scheduling capabilities of DepotSim to
perform aircraft level scheduling.
-
Maintenance Operations Support (MOS), implemented at
Warner Robins Air Logistic Center (WRALC) since January
2006. F-15 aircraft schedulers at Robins utilize the
full DepotSim scheduling capabilities of DepotSim to
perform aircraft level scheduling.
