Expeditionary Combat Support System (ECSS)
Challenge
The Air Force needed a
Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) based system
to enable the eLog21 future logistics vision.
Solution
DRC is a key member of the Computer
Sciences Corporation (CSC) Team that
is building ECSS. ECSS will leverage an Enterprise Resource
Planning (ERP) system as its primary system. The ERP will
integrate financials, manufacturing, distribution, and other
business functions in a single technology solution. ECSS
will enable coordination of the systems and process changes
needed to streamline and improve the Air Force logistics
supply chain. Specifically, ECSS will replace over 700
legacy Air Force information technology systems with a
COTS information technology
suite. This suite consists of more than ten integrated
modules with software/hardware and embedded/updateable best
business practices, as well as capabilities in product
support and engineering; supply chain management;
expeditionary logistics C2; and maintenance, repair, and
overhaul.
Benefits/Achievements
Overall, the benefits of implementing
ECSS include:
- Improved combat support capability to
Joint and Air Force commanders and airmen.
- Merging of base level and wholesale
logistics systems.
- Improved synchronization of
operations/logistics planning and execution and command
and control.
- Near real-time worldwide visibility
of assets
- Improved availability of
mission-critical weapon systems.
