Coast Guard Communications Systems Network Requirements
Development (CGDN21)
Challenge
The U.S. CGDN21 needed
support to facilitate stakeholder meetings, define and
document the requirements for their next-generation data
network. This sensitive, but unclassified, network will
serve the entire Coast Guard, whether admin or operational,
coastal shore unit, ship underway or aircraft in the air,
24/7. It will consider incorporating the existing separate
networks that support the mid-continent LORAN chain, the
nationwide differential GPS monitoring network, and the
RESCUE 21 coastal command and control voice radio network,
while continuing to serve its present users, the SAR,
financial, law enforcement, marine safety, logistics
systems, e-mail, unclassified messaging systems and more. To
assist law enforcement and anti-terror missions at sea, the
network will handle high-resolution streaming video more
effectively than at present.
Solution
To date, DRC has provided the Coast
Guard with several successful facilitations, including the
C-130 sustainment program, the critical Deepwater program,
the Great Lakes Icebreaker, and the significant
anti-terrorism small boat purchases of 2002, 2003 and 2004.
Benefits/Achievements
DRC's Decision Support Center provides
effective and efficient automated facilitation capabilities.
This is reinforced with excellent data network engineers who
fully understand WAN technologies and issues.
