SOCOM Training and Rehearsal System Process Improvement
Challenge
SOCOM, with the responsibility to train
and equip special operation forces, must acquire and manage
training that will support its Service components and its
overall mission. The task of updating its training as part
of the DoD Training Transformation (T2) initiative was
difficult, with many competing requirements and constraints.
Solution
An analysis of the existing SOCOM
training processes using state-of-the- art process
simulation tools highlighted gaps and inefficiencies.
Simulation tools were used to forecast student throughput
and instructor requirements for Special Forces. The
simulation tools were used to forecast training requirements
under a number of possible scenarios; 18 specific
recommendations were provided, 15 were approved for
implementation.
Benefits/Achievements
Approved recommendations were designed
to streamline and centralize training management within
SOCOM and allow SOCOM to be the lead in Training
Transformation within the DoD. The tools identified training
inefficiencies that could reduce time-in-training by 60 days
for each enlisted crew member. Estimated savings were over
$600,000 per year.
