FAI Workforce Development Support
Challenge
The Federal Acquisition Institute (FAI)
faces many challenges in improving the knowledge, skills,
and abilities of the civilian acquisition workforce. The
smaller acquisition workforce is being challenged to deliver
the products and services needed to meet agency missions; it
needs to be better educated, better trained, more willing to
exercise creativity, and possess a wider skill set than in
the past.
Solutions
-
Technology Solutions and Web
Content: DRC set up a SharePoint site that is the
central knowledge management repository for all of FAI's
contractors and staff. We are also responsible for the
maintenance of FAI's official public website:
www.FAI.gov.
-
Workforce Solutions: We identified
gaps between the current and future acquisition
workforce, including those in work competency, staffing
challenges, human capital program gaps, and future labor
market availability. Our workforce analytics provide the
ability to conduct ongoing analyses of federal
acquisition workforce data and trends, and to track the
progress of new and continuing human capital programs.
We also created and implemented a strategic recruitment
plan.
-
Event Planning and Customer Service:
DRC plans all of the various learning seminars for
acquisition professionals. We have introduced new online
tools to increase efficiency.
Benefits/Achievements
After only six weeks, the customer service
backlog for event support was eliminated. We made
significant improvements in FAI's succession management
through a number of strategic recruiting services. We were
able to capture data and generate analyses that showed not
just where FAI stood, but where it will be in five and ten
years.
