Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA)
Challenge
The DEA needed
mission-critical network support for its classified network
and related Communications Security (COMSEC) equipment. This
network operated at the SECRET level and had to be available
24/7 to support DEA operations.
Solutions
DRC personnel tracked, monitored, and
input technical COMSEC and network information. We provided
network management and control of the SECRET level network.
We performed DEA security studies, analyses and site surveys
to ensure suitability of proposed sites to house a
cryptographic facility. DRC provided technical support for
the various COMSEC units sent to the field, including STU-III,
Network Encryption Systems, In-Line Network Encryptors and
KG-194s. In addition, we provided technical support of
classified network related issues to the Information
Security section in support of various security initiatives.
DRC also maintained a configuration
database, disseminated new configurations to the field, and
helped remote users with the loading of new configurations
or the loading of new crypto keys.
DRC's technical support also included
the operation, maintenance and upgrade of the network
infrastructure for several DEA mission-critical classified
networks. This support included monitoring, upgrading and
administering the backbone network and providing technical
support to the sub-networks riding the backbone
infrastructure.
Benefits/Achievements
DRC personnel successfully provided the
requisite network and security expertise to successfully
keep the DEA network running 24/7, thereby allowing DEA
personnel to focus on their important missions.
