U.S. Navy Surface Center
Challenges
The Navy Coastal System Station (CSS)
needed PC and LAN support for a 2,000-user community located
in 80 interconnected buildings. The Station's diverse
hardware and software environments posed additional
challenges.
Solutions
DRC's comprehensive set of services
includes operational support, installation and integration
of network equipment for internet/intranet connectivity,
configuration management and documentation, PC hardware and
software installation and support, user support, software
maintenance, network engineering and design, technology
assessment, network security and intrusion detection, and
maintenance of LAN/WAN connectivity.
In addition to providing daily
operational, maintenance, and engineering support, for the
CSS, DRC helps to define new requirements, modify existing
configuration standards, analyze network and data security,
deploy new network operating systems and servers, and
analyze the potential impact of service upgrades. To support
the ongoing evolution of network technology, DRC developed a
comprehensive network conversion model and automated
push/pull solutions for conversion of post office accounts.
We provide failsafe monitoring of network nodes using 3com
Transcend and HP Overview, and use bandwidth measurement
projections to switch utilization and evaluation. DRC also
provides PC and peripheral hardware and software
installation and maintenance and help desk support for the
Station’s users of voice, video, and data systems.
Benefits/Achievements
DRC focused approach on people, process,
and technology has allowed CSS to:
- Increase network mission
effectiveness at reduced support cost ($150K annually).
- Modernize systems wiring of
over 50 buildings.
