Digital Battle Command Team Training (DBCTT)
Challenge
The Army's Current and Future Forces
increasingly rely on highly lethal, highly complex digital
technologies to accomplish their missions under often severe
environmental conditions. Team training will play a key role
in the successful employment of these sophisticated assets,
however, the Army lacked a training product for training
team coordination skills in future systems.
Solution
DRC conducted a collective task analysis
to identify critical coordination tasks for the brigade
commander's battle staff team in the Mounted Battle Command
on the Move. We used the information from that analysis to
create an interactive multimedia program to train critical
coordination tasks for the brigade commander and his staff.
We then assessed the efficiency and effectiveness of the
training with operational units. As part of this effort, DRC
created an Army Battle Command System emulation that
provides for individual, team and collective
training. Our courseware products included basic and
advanced ABCS system instruction, including situational
training exercises, individual and collective training
products, tutorials and evaluations methods and measures.
The instruction is web-based and modifiable by the end user
to match specific unit training needs. Instructorless
feedback and individual assessment is available in the
courseware products.
Benefits/Achievements
DRC's work on GSTT lays the foundation
for team and embedded training in future Army vehicles. Our
training products reduce the need for instructors and will
allow soldier to successfully train in the field.
