Department of Justice Language Training
Challenge
Department of Justice needed to achieve
basic foreign language proficiency in a highly compressed
timeframe for mission- specific requirements and provide
learners with an understanding of the nuances of the
cultures in which the missions take place.
Solution
DRC used proven instructional design
methodology to develop a computer-based training language.
We developed exercises and interaction that promoted the
highest retention of knowledge by including:
-
animations of character
illustrations and guided writing exercises
-
interactive job-related scenarios
-
enrichment information such as
important cultural background about the countries where
the language is spoken
-
knowledge checks and assessment
questions
DRC recruited linguists for the
designated languages to develop custom content for each
course that fully reflected each culture.
Benefits/Achievements
DRC successfully developed flexible
computer-based training that teaches language basics in a
condensed timeframe and teaches the learner culture-specific
social skills.
